Checking Your Tires is Easy and Vital

Did you know that most drivers are more concerned about keeping their cars clean than keeping their tires properly inflated? According to the federal government, 660 fatalities and 33,0000 injuries occur every year as a result of worn tires or low tire pressure.

One survey even found that 70% of drivers wash their vehicles at least once a month, while only 15% of drivers ever check their tire pressure.

A regular 5-minute check will not only improve safety, but also add to fuel economy and maximize tire life. Buy a good tire pressure gauge for a few dollars and use it monthly. The correct pressure is found on the driver's door edge or in the owner's manual.

Don't use the inflation pressure stamped on the tire sidewall-- that's the maximum pressure for the tire. Also, check tire pressure "cold"  BEFORE you drive, for an accurate reading.

When the tire tread is down to 2/32nds of an inch, replace your tires to reduce the threat of hydroplaning.
