Holiday Automotive Travel Tips 11/06/2010
![]() Did you know that Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year? With millions of Americans getting ready to hit the roads, you'll want to be sure you are prepared for anything. So whether you are headed over the river and through the woods to Grandma's house in your mini van, or to a tailgating weekend at college football game in your pickup truck, make sure you and your vehicle are ready to make the trip. 1. Think Ahead. Build in extra time before your road trip to listen to your vehicle for any strange sounds. Pay close attention to the brakes (which can squeak) and the steering wheel (which can whine). Double-check that your wipers work well, and make sure headlights, turn signals, and other bulbs are not burned out. Find something in disrepair? For Thanksgiving week, Monday and Tuesday are the best days to travel; driving on these days should cut down on time spent sitting in traffic. If you do get stuck in traffic, preserve your clutch by putting the car into neutral and taking your foot off the clutch to keep it from slipping. 3. Get a Gauge. Maintaining proper tire pressure ensures safer, more comfortable driving and better fuel efficiency. If your tire pressure is too high, you car could bounce on the road, and if it's too low, your tires could overheat—both could cause serious accidents. 4. Stay Full. Don't drive with less than a quarter tank of gas. If you do, sediment could start collecting at the bottom of your fuel tank. Even the smallest amount could clog or damage parts, so make sure to always fill up.http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-3503764-10431105 Add Comment | Thrifty Princess
